Lack of Substance

June 25, 2009 Leave a comment

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you[b] are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“ I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”[c]

17 Therefore

Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”[d]

18 “ I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the LORD Almighty.”[e]

-2 Corinthians 6:14-18

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit[b]is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.'”

-Ephesians 5:8-14

Darkness is nothing in and of itself, it is empty, it is only present when there is a lack of light. Likewise death is empty, because it only comes to those who lack life, it has no substance of its own.

So also, is a lie empty, it is totally void of any substance. Because substance is something that is true, if there is no truth there is no substance, therefore making it empty, bringing forth the basic definition of a lie: a lack of truth.

We know we need to be filled with life, love, and truth, essentially with the substance of God, when we recognize it is not there. The only way to recognize it is not there is by making an honest contrast between the current state, and God’s standard. There would be no way for anyone to know better, if not the “better” was shown to them. God repeatedly does this for us through His word.

God’s standard is not bad, nor unfair, nor difficult to live by, as long as we are in full submission to Him and do our part in the maintenance. Let me ask a question: Is being and staying alive physically too high a standard? Of course not! I’m sure that most people would agree to that, only those who are not living life would possibly be the exception. So we at least try to do what it takes to stay alive and in good health, do we not? Is maintaining life too high a standard?

So in this case God’s standard is that of life, joy, peace, good health, a satisfied spirit and soul. In contrast, the Devil’s standard is that of death, poor maintenance, poor health, a starved spirit, a festering soul, etc.

So tell me, if you were given the option in a doctors office to chose the somewhat more rigorous, yet truly required health plan, to live and live in abundant health, instead of continuing the more common path to an unhealthy life, and an early death, which would you honestly choose?

So again I beg the question, is God’s standard really too high? Or is it maybe that we are so low, so void of life that it just seems too high?

Can we really live a lie when we so clearly see the truth?

My friends, will you choose life, and life more abundantly, or death, and death eternally?

Love is out of abundance

June 24, 2009 Leave a comment

There is no way we can give love, without having abundantly much our selves.

Psalm 23:5 says ” 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.” This is a biblical truth that is universally true, however it stand on the basis of salvation. There are many other Bible references to this same principle.

The movie “Fireproof” came out in 2008, and was actually quite successful, and one of the lines that I remember most is “you can’t give you what you don’t have”.

The truth is that we should give freely what has been freely given to us, however we only love God because He first loved us, and called us.

So you see that until we answer the call of God, until we open the door and let Him come in, set up and anoint us till our cups overflow, until there’s an abundance of His love inside our hearts, there is no way we could possibly genuinely love others without an agenda.

True Worshipers

June 15, 2009 Leave a comment

21 Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

22 You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.

23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

John 4:21-24 NLT

We are going to break this down, but first for some historical context.  Jews and Samaritans did not get along, at all. Jews considered the Samaritans, who were gentiles, to be dogs. So it is a huge shock first of all that Jesus is even talking to this woman. For many Christians this piece of historical context may be common knowledge, however it is key to explaining this passage, and understanding the heart of God.

So the first two verses, after the initial shock and some time into the conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus makes two strong remarks. First He tells her that it won’t matter where they worship God, which is important, because at that point the Samaritans where not aloud to worship in Jerusalem with the Jews. Then in the second verse He states that salvation comes through the Jews.

Interesting right? But why the Jews? Simply read the verse backwards, it was because they knew the one that they were worshipping, unlike the Samaritans.

So if the promise of salvation was for the Jews then why was Jesus even bothering with some strange Samaritan woman?  Because “The time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. God wants people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, he doesnt wants Jews becuase they are so-called Jews, he wants true worshipers. The following verse tells us why, 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Before Jewish law ever came into existance God has been faithful to those who worshiped Him in spirit and in truth. Adam, Moses, Enoch, and others all walked with God through their faith, through their true worship, not because they desired to follow a rulebook, but because they truly wanted to worship God in the spirit.

In Matthew 15:8 Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah, saying 8 ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. He is talking about religious leaders in this passage, not true worshipers. They did not recognize the truth of God, nor could they discern His spirit, much like many Jews and Christians alike today.

So you see, Salvation came through the Jews ONLY because they were anointed to recieve the promise of salvation from God, only because they held the promise of salvation, however, they were also commissioned to bring the good news to the gentiles, to give freely as they have recieved. That is why Jesus told the Samaritan woman that the time had come that it didn’t matter about Jew or Gentile, because there is no segregation in the truth, nor is there any disunity in the spirit, therefore all those who partake of the spirit of God through Christ Jesus are true worshipers, and no longer Jew and Gentile, but a living child of God.

Let us not be teachers of religous law any longer, let us rise up as true worshipers, let us refuse to be anything other than such worshipers, who will worship God in spirit and in truth!

And this is the truth, that outside of Christ, we are enemies of God, and through His atoning blood, Christ Jesus brings us to unity with the Father God through faith in Him, and that is good news for everyone!
